Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is a sort of remake of the original game through which you can relive some of the most iconic moments from both the main plot and its various spin-offs, including "Crisis Core," "Before Crisis," and "The First Soldier." The concept is very similar to Final Fantasy Record Keeper's, except that this game is focused exclusively on the franchise's seventh installment and features much better graphics.
Relive only the most spectacular moments
The development of Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is entirely episodic, with each part of the game clearly delineated. In this way, this game offers only the best moments from the saga, such as the assault on the Midgar reactor, and bypasses the less memorable or more tedious parts. Considering that you can relive scenes from "Crisis Core" and "The First Soldiers," it's evident that you'll be able to play characters beyond just Cloud, including Zack and new characters like Glenn and Lucia, and star in some of the most important moments of their respective stories.
A more dynamic combat system
The combat system in Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is much more fluid and dynamic than in the original Final Fantasy VII, without changing it completely. Cloud, Barret, and other characters perform normal attacks automatically, while the energy bar recharges with each passing second. Spells and other special abilities consume energy points, so you must use them wisely. Likewise, when a character is injured, they can perform a Limit Attack.
Classic and modern gameplay
As a top-notch addition to this franchise, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis proudly maintains some elements that made the original so famous, such as its materials. All the most important gameplay elements are still here: the use of matter and summons, Limit Attacks, free exploration of settings, magic, and more. But you'll also find new features, such as the ability to speed up battles or automate dialogue during some game moments. This way, you can enjoy the best parts of the original game with some modern advantages.
Fight in cooperative mode
One of the most interesting additions to Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is its cooperative battles. Thanks to this game mode, you can join forces with two friends, each of whom controls their own character, to face off against some of the game's most difficult bosses. Like this, each player can assume a specific role during battle: one player will inflict as much damage as possible, another will try to absorb all the attacks, and the third will be in charge of healing.
Truly spectacular graphics
One detail that will surely please fans of the original Final Fantasy VII is that the visual style has been preserved, with more cartoonish characters during the narrative parts and more stylized characters during combat. The old PlayStation 1 models were left behind in favor of a redesign that can hold its own with other great releases for PC and desktop consoles. It's worth highlighting that, during combat, the character models look like something from a PlayStation 5 or PC game.
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is an interesting concept since it's essentially a remake of a game that has already been remade. That said, this second remake is much more faithful to the essence of the original game. Rather than trying to offer a brand new experience with surprising plot twists, this Ever Crisis simply aims to provide a prettier and more accessible version of what many consider to be one of the greatest RPGs ever.
